Cello Hire Agreement

Period
The rental is initially for a minimum period of 4 months. Thereafter, the hire fee will be charged either 4-monthly, or if paying by monthly standing order, monthly. The advantage of paying by standing order is that it enables the hirer to return the instrument mid- term without incurring the whole 4-monthly cost. Hirers will incur the cost for the entire 4 month term unless paying by monthly standing order.

Payment
Rental payments must be made in advance, whether monthly or 4-monthly.

Insurance
As with any hire scheme, you (the hirer) are responsible for loss or damage, even if a third party caused the damage. Also, it is unlikely that a school will bear the cost of replacement if a cello is damaged there. My advice is to contact the company that deals with your home contents insurance and ask that the instrument be included under the ‘All Risks’ section. There are also online insurers who will insure musical instruments at reasonable cost. The hirer must keep the instrument in good condition and take all reasonable precautions against accidental damage or loss.

Replacement cost for the cello varies from £350 to £1000.

The cost of replacing strings that break must be borne by the hirer. At my discretion, I will make necessary improvements to the instrument.
Please note that by accepting the instrument, and continuing to hire the cello, you are agreeing to these terms.
